200 Indian Immigrants Deported From US

Illegal Indian Immigrants to Return Home on US Military Aircraft

A US military aircraft carrying around 200 illegal Indian immigrants is expected to land at the Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport on Wednesday afternoon. The aircraft, a C-17, is bringing back 205 individuals hailing from Punjab and nearby states. Earlier reports indicated a morning arrival, but the latest updates confirm the afternoon landing.

Punjab Government Prepares for Arrivals

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the state government is prepared to receive the immigrants. Counters will be set up at the airport to assist the returning [[individuals]]. Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal expressed disappointment with the US government’s decision.

Minister Advocates for Legal Immigration

Dhaliwal believes that these individuals, who contributed to the US economy, should have been granted permanent residency. He pointed out that many entered the US on work permits that later expired, leading to their current status. He plans to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar next week to discuss the issue.

Crackdown on Illegal Immigration

The US has stepped up its crackdown on illegal immigrants after Donald Trump took office last month. Many people from Punjab who entered the US illegally are now facing deportation. Dhaliwal appealed to Punjabis not to resort to illegal immigration methods. He encouraged acquiring necessary skills and education and emphasised researching legal immigration pathways before traveling abroad.

Focus on Education and Legal Pathways

Dhaliwal stressed the significance of education and language skills for those seeking opportunities abroad. He urged people to explore legal immigration options and acquire appropriate education and language skills to enhance their chances of success.
