A 59-year-old woman, identified as P. Nirmala, was found hanging in her office at Chennai Airport on Friday. Nirmala, who worked as a supervisor in the telecom department, was discovered by her colleagues who found her office door latched from the inside. Despite repeated attempts to contact her via phone, they were unable to reach her.
Police were alerted and upon breaking into the office, they found Nirmala’s body hanging from the ceiling. Her death is suspected to be a suicide, and police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to airport officials, Nirmala had been assigned night duty on Thursday and was alone in the office when the incident occurred. Her retirement was due this December.
Police are investigating the possibility that Nirmala’s recent grief over the death of her brother, who passed away on September 1st, may have contributed to her decision. They are also looking into other possible factors that may have led to her suicide.
The Chennai Airport police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation.
