Saudi Arabia Restricts Haj Pilgrimage for Visit Visa Holders and Tourists

In response to the upcoming Haj pilgrimage, the Saudi Arabian government has imposed new restrictions for visit visa holders and tourists. Effective from May 23rd to June 21st, individuals without a Saudi Haj visa or a Haj permit will be prohibited from performing the pilgrimage or entering Makkah. This measure aims to streamline the pilgrimage process and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has emphasized that visit visas, regardless of their type or name, do not grant holders the right to perform the Haj. Obtaining a permit specifically designated for the pilgrimage is mandatory. Additionally, temporary visas, such as student or Schengen visas, are also not accepted for Haj purposes.

To avoid any inconvenience or potential penalties, visitors are strongly advised to refrain from visiting Makkah during the specified period without obtaining a Haj permit. Those who disregard this directive may face strict repercussions.

Saudi Arabia has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards violations of Haj regulations. Individuals apprehended in Makkah or other holy sites without a Haj permit will be subject to a hefty fine of SR10,000 (approximately $2,666). Repeat offenders will face double the penalty, and resident violators risk deportation along with a ban on future entry into Saudi Arabia.

Pilgrims are also reminded to carry their identification documents throughout the ‘Hajj period’ for verification purposes. By adhering to these guidelines, pilgrims can ensure a smooth and hassle-free Haj experience.
