Amazon Scam? Delhi Lawyer Loses Rs. 38,000 After iPhone 15 Exchange Goes Wrong

A Delhi-based lawyer, Mukund P Unny, recently shared his harrowing experience with Amazon’s e-commerce platform, accusing the company of a potential scam. In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), Unny detailed how he lost his money without receiving an Apple iPhone 15 he had ordered through an exchange program.

Unny’s ordeal began on July 21, 2024, when he placed an order for the iPhone 15 through Amazon, exchanging his iPhone 13. The delivery executive arrived on July 22nd at around 9:30 PM, asking Unny for a One Time Password (OTP). Unny provided the OTP and received the new iPhone 15, handing over his old phone to the delivery executive. However, shortly after, the delivery executive requested another OTP, which Unny didn’t receive. The delivery executive then contacted his supervisor on call and demanded Unny return the iPhone 15. He assured Unny that a refund would be processed.

Unny, trusting the supervisor’s assurance, returned the iPhone 15, noting the supervisor’s and delivery executive’s phone numbers. He then filed a complaint with Amazon customer service, only to be told to wait for an investigation. He was assured of a refund if no delivery was made.

However, days later, Amazon declared that the investigation was complete and that a refund could not be processed, despite no apparent fact-finding. Unny accused Amazon of a potential scam involving the supervisor, delivery executive, and possibly other Amazon employees.

Unny’s post on X went viral, garnering over 879,400 views and 4,000 likes. Amazon’s customer service account responded on the social media platform, offering support and directing Unny to contact them through direct messages for further assistance.

In a subsequent update, Unny announced that Amazon had initiated the refund process. While relieved at the outcome, Unny expressed the harrowing nature of the experience.
