Bulgaria is considering expanding the number of lanes at the Durankulak border checkpoint to handle a surge in tourist traffic. The announcement came from Evtim Miloshev, the country’s caretaker Minister of Tourism, during an interview on Nova TV. While still in the conceptual stage, discussions with relevant authorities have begun.
Durankulak, a key entry point for tourists from Romania, has experienced a significant increase in traffic this year. This surge is partially attributed to ongoing repairs at the Danube Bridge, diverting travelers towards the Durankulak route.
Minister Miloshev highlighted the ongoing success of the current tourism season, noting steady numbers from traditional European markets and an upswing in visitors from countries like Uzbekistan and Mexico. He emphasized the importance of promoting Bulgaria’s tourism potential on a global scale, citing the country’s diverse attractions that appeal to both international and domestic travelers.
The Minister also observed a significant rise in domestic travel among Bulgarians, a trend accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic.
