Xiaomi 14T Pro: A New Take on the T-Series with iPhone-Like Design and Powerful Features

Xiaomi’s T-series smartphones have always been a bit of a mystery, often blurring the lines between upgrades and alternatives. The Xiaomi 14T Pro is no exception, introducing a fresh perspective on what a T-series phone can be.

Design-wise, the 14T Pro takes a bold step away from its predecessors. It adopts a distinct iPhone-inspired aesthetic, featuring a sleek, flat aluminum chassis and a camera module reminiscent of Apple’s flagship devices. While its 209-gram weight and 8.3mm thickness make it a substantial phone, the build quality feels premium and durable, especially with the addition of IP68 dust and water resistance.

The back panel, though seemingly metal, is actually a smooth, cool-to-the-touch glass surface with 3D curved edges. This design element further emphasizes the iPhone-like feel. It’s available in three color options: Titan Black, Titan Blue, and Titan Gray, with the latter making the most prominent appearances in promotional materials. Despite being highly reflective, the surface doesn’t appear to be a fingerprint magnet.

Under the hood, the 14T Pro packs a punch. It boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen boasting a 144Hz refresh rate, a 2712 x 1220 pixel resolution, and an impressive 4,000 nit peak brightness. This screen promises to be exceptionally vibrant and clear, even in bright sunlight.

Powering this impressive display is the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, a powerhouse that’s paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The battery, with a 5,000mAh capacity, is fueled by Xiaomi’s 120W HyperCharge wired charging system or 50W wireless HyperCharge, ensuring you stay connected and productive throughout the day.

Xiaomi’s continued partnership with Leica shines through in the 14T Pro’s camera system. This collaboration mirrors the exceptional results seen on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, featuring Leica’s Vario-Summilux lenses, a choice of Vibrant or Natural photographic styles, video mode enhancements, different filters, and dedicated portrait modes.

The main camera is a 50MP Light Fusion 900 sensor with an impressive f/1.6 aperture, supported by a 50MP telephoto camera and a 12MP wide-angle camera. As expected from a 2024 release, AI plays a significant role. Google Gemini comes pre-installed, alongside Google’s Circle to Search feature, bringing two of the most advanced AI functionalities to the phone. The camera itself also benefits from AI features like AI Portrait, AI Film, and AI Image Editing.

Other notable features include AI Notes, AI Recorder, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7, and NFC.

When compared to the Xiaomi 14 Pro, the 14T Pro offers a unique blend of features. While the 14 Pro boasts a slightly larger screen and a different 50MP wide-angle camera, it features a smaller battery and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Although the two phones share some similarities, the 14T Pro stands out as an alternative rather than a direct upgrade. The change in processor suggests a possible adjustment in price, but Xiaomi has yet to reveal the cost or release date for the 14T Pro.

Despite not having had extended use with the phone, the cool-to-the-touch metal body has a distinct appeal, reminiscent of the OnePlus Nord 4 rather than an iPhone. The 14T Pro presents a compelling proposition for tech enthusiasts, offering a combination of iPhone-inspired design, powerful performance, advanced AI features, and a top-tier camera system.
