Starlink Reaches 4 Million Subscribers, Expanding Global Internet Access

SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service has achieved a major milestone, connecting over 4 million users across the globe. This remarkable feat was announced on Thursday through a post on X (formerly Twitter), showcasing the company’s continued commitment to expanding internet access worldwide.

The 4 million Starlink customers are spread across more than 100 countries, territories, and diverse markets. This significant growth comes just four months after Starlink reached 3 million subscribers in May 2023, demonstrating the service’s rapid adoption rate.

Starlink’s journey began in 2020 with limited beta testing, and the service hit its first million subscribers in December 2022. The company’s constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites provides high-speed internet connectivity to customers, including airlines.

Earlier this month, SpaceX launched its 7000th Starlink satellite into space, further expanding its network. According to astronomer Jonathan McDowell, over 6000 of these satellites are currently operational.

In a testament to the growing popularity of Starlink, Air France announced that it will begin offering onboard Wi-Fi service powered by Starlink on all its aircraft starting in 2025. Passengers will be able to stay connected with friends and family, access live news updates, play online games, and stream entertainment content seamlessly during their flights.

This development highlights the increasing importance of reliable and accessible internet connectivity in today’s interconnected world. Starlink’s rapid growth and partnerships with airlines demonstrate its potential to bridge the digital divide and provide high-speed internet to underserved populations globally.
