India Weather Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Southern States, Northeast to Witness Heavy Downpours

Get ready for a wet week in India as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several regions. The southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and Karnataka are expected to experience heavy rainfall on September 29.

Moving up the coast, West India will witness lighter rainfall, with Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat anticipating light to moderate rainfall on September 29. The entire region is expected to receive isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall until October 3. However, Saurashtra and Kutch are predicted to see dry weather conditions starting from October 2.

The Northeast is bracing for a deluge. The IMD has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from October 2 to 4. Assam and Meghalaya will likely experience heavy rainfall on October 2 and 3. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted for Arunachal Pradesh on October 1, while Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura might see similar weather conditions on September 30 and October 1.

Central India is expected to receive isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall until October 4. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall until October 5. Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh can expect light to moderate rainfall until September 30. The following four days are anticipated to be dry in this region.

The South Peninsula is expected to see heavy rainfall in certain areas. Tamil Nadu is predicted to receive isolated heavy rainfall until September 30. Other affected regions include South Interior Karnataka on September 29, Rayalaseema on October 2, Coastal Karnataka on September 29, Lakshadweep on September 30, and Kerala & Mahe from September 28 to October 2.

On a brighter note, the air quality in most parts of the country remains good. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Gujarat’s Nandesari registered the worst air quality with an AQI of 186 on Sunday, which falls in the moderate category. However, Sikkim’s capital, Gangtok, stood out with the least pollution levels and best air quality, registering an AQI of 9, which falls in the ‘good’ category. Kalyan registered an AQI of 14, Vapi registered an AQI of 18, Palkalaiperur registered an AQI of 20, and Amravati, Virudhunagar, and Karwar registered an AQI of 22.
