New Zealand’s captain, Tom Latham, has shown remarkable sportsmanship following his team’s historic 3-0 Test series whitewash over India, becoming the first visiting side to achieve this feat on Indian soil. Despite the dominant performance, Latham expressed respect for India’s resilience and recognized their strength as a cricketing powerhouse.
The Black Caps secured victories in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai, delivering a complete and resounding defeat against Rohit Sharma’s team. However, Latham acknowledged India’s enduring position in the world of cricket and emphasized that their recent loss doesn’t diminish their formidable capabilities.
Upon their return from India, Latham remarked, “Indian cricket in general is really special. We’ve played against them a lot. The guys play with them at the IPL. They were certainly gracious in defeat and they’re still a quality side.” He added, showing confidence in India’s ability to bounce back, “They certainly don’t become a bad team overnight, and I’m sure they’ll turn things around in time.”
The victory holds special significance for New Zealand, as it comes on the heels of a disappointing 0-2 Test series defeat against Sri Lanka just weeks prior. Reflecting on this contrasting performance, Latham stated, “When we were in Sri Lanka a few weeks ago, things didn’t necessarily go our way. So, I think it makes these times extra special when you’re able to achieve something that hasn’t been achieved before.”
This historic achievement highlights New Zealand’s current dominance in Test cricket and solidifies their position as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage. Their victory in India serves as a testament to their hard work, skill, and tactical prowess, making it a triumph that will be remembered for years to come.
