Arkema, a leading manufacturer of specialty materials, has reached a significant milestone in its sustainability journey with the ISCC PLUS certification of its Changshu site in China. This achievement empowers Arkema to introduce a new line of bio-attributed waterborne acrylic resins and additives in the Asian market. These innovative materials are designed to support the development of more sustainable coating solutions for various industries in Asia, including new energy, e-mobility, living comfort, and building efficiency.
This certification expands Arkema’s existing portfolio of rheology modifiers and waterborne resins derived from renewable sources, offering reduced carbon footprints. It complements the already available bio-based segregated resins and additives, which can contain up to 100% biobased content. “To address climate change and conserve resources, we are steadily replacing conventional fossil feedstocks with renewable and circular sources. Alongside the segregated model, the mass balance approach enables industries to accelerate CO2 emission reduction and foster circularity throughout the value chain,” stated Heidi Wang, General Manager of Rheology/Specialty Additives and Coating Resins, Arkema, Greater China.
The ISCC PLUS certification of products manufactured at Arkema’s Changshu facility adds to its existing certifications in the US, Europe, and China. Arkema is strategically introducing a comprehensive range of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives for various technologies, including high solids, waterborne, UV/LED/EB, and polyester powders. This commitment to sustainability aligns with Arkema’s ambition to become a leading player in Specialty Materials by 2024, with a focus on three key segments: Adhesive Solutions, Advanced Materials, and Coating Solutions, contributing to 92% of Group sales in 2023.
Arkema is committed to delivering cutting-edge technological solutions to address global challenges such as new energy sources, access to water, recycling, urbanization, and mobility. The company fosters open communication with all stakeholders, actively engaging in the development of sustainable solutions. In 2023, Arkema reported sales of approximately €9.5 billion and operates in 55 countries with a global workforce of 21,100 employees.
