Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has boldly declared that this is the year his team can finally end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title. The confidence stems from their impressive 2-0 victory over French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, a result that further solidified their title credentials.
Arsenal narrowly missed out on the Premier League crown in the last two seasons, finishing second both times. They have carried their momentum into the current campaign, sitting comfortably in third place in the league standings. Saka’s conviction in his team’s abilities is undeniable, especially after their dominant performance against PSG.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us but I do think that this is the year (that we can win the title),” Saka told CBS Sports. “I think we’ve been close the last two years, and we’re getting closer, but this hopefully will be the year.”
The 23-year-old, who emerged as Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League last season, emphasizes that those near misses have only fueled his hunger for success. Speaking to Amazon Prime, Saka revealed, “[In] previous years, I’ve come runners-up a lot. It’s just that spirit in me that I want to win this season, and of course, I believe in myself a lot.”
Saka’s belief in his team is palpable. “We believe in ourselves, we believe we’re a top team. We showed that tonight (against PSG). I did tell the boys we have to make a statement when big teams are coming to the Emirates.”
Arsenal will look to continue their winning streak as they host Southampton in a Premier League clash on Saturday. With the Gunners’ momentum and Saka’s unwavering belief, the fight for the Premier League title promises to be a thrilling one this season.
