Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is bringing back its fan-favorite Zombie mode, but it’s not just a copy-and-paste job from a previous title. In a comprehensive post on its website, the developers at Treyarch revealed a ton of new features, including a new map called Terminus, a maximum-security prison on an island where players must fight off hordes of zombies. The second launch map, Liberty Falls, is situated in West Virginia during a Dark Aether outbreak, amidst the fallout of a dimensional rift. The Zombies mode in Black Ops 6 follows the Dark Aether storyline from previous games.
The round-based gameplay will be familiar to Call of Duty veterans, requiring players to complete objectives while managing two currencies: Essence and Salvage. Essence is used to access objective-related items and unlock doors, and players can now split the cost with their teammates. Salvage can be used to upgrade your kit. For those new to Zombies, a guided mode will be launched later in the season to help players navigate the main and side quests, offering guidance through the sometimes complicated main questline.
Treyarch has implemented several quality-of-life updates, including the ability to pause solo matches and for friends to join in-progress co-op games. One of the largest changes is Omnimovement, a new traversal system that allows players to sprint in four directions, making it easier to avoid gunfire. Zombies will also have Zombimovement, which is essentially the same system with a humorous name.
Treyarch has promised even more details to be revealed on August 28, promising that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new features and updates in Black Ops 6 Zombies. The blog post provides a detailed breakdown of all the granular changes coming to Zombies.
