Capcom surprised fans with the announcement of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a full-fledged remake of the original Dead Rising, during their Capcom Next: Summer 2024 showcase. The announcement came out of the blue on June 26th, with only a brief teaser showcasing a redesigned protagonist, Frank West.
The remaster promises a core experience similar to the original Dead Rising, with players crafting weapons from materials found within a mall while surviving a zombie horde and various psychopathic enemies over 72 hours. However, the game has undergone significant enhancements. Visuals have been vastly overhauled, and new gameplay features include the ability to move while aiming, visual filters for photos taken with the camera, and auto-saves.
Further details revealed during the Capcom Next showcase confirmed 4K and 3D audio support, as well as a 60 frames per second framerate and updated character models. The user interface and non-player character AI have also been improved, aiming to make the game more approachable to new players while maintaining the original’s timer-based gameplay.
Capcom Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is set to release digitally on September 19th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S at a price of $50. A physical version is scheduled to follow in November, and a $60 digital deluxe edition will include 17 additional costumes for Frank West and 17 background music tracks. Pre-orders will grant access to costumes based on the original Frank West, Dead Rising 2’s Chuck Greene, and the Willamette Parkview Mall Bee.
The Capcom Next livestream also featured updates on other titles, including a free demo for Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (releasing July 19th), crossover items with Okami, and a July 2nd release date for Resident Evil 7 biohazard for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, and Mac.
