Two men from Lindsay, Ontario, are facing multiple drug trafficking charges after a raid on a home in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police seized a quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of $5,200 during the raid, which was executed with the assistance of the OPP’s tactics and rescue unit, emergency response team, and community street crime unit. The two men, ages 35 and 41, were arrested and each charged with possession of a Schedule 1 and a Schedule 2 substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine, other opioid). They were held in custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Lindsay.
On Tuesday night, around 11 p.m., an employee at a Trent Lakes business reported that a possibly impaired man had driven away. The police located the vehicle in a ditch along Lakehurst Road and identified a matching description of the driver provided by the caller. The suspect approached the officers and acknowledged being the driver. Police determined he was impaired and charged him with two counts of impaired driving (alcohol and blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), suspending his license for 90 days and impounding the vehicle for a week. The 28-year-old man was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on June 11.
The Canadian Football League (CFL) has implemented several health and safety initiatives for the upcoming season, including optional Guardian caps, mandatory mouthguards, and GPS tracking technology. Guardian caps, which provide additional head protection, will be available to all players, and mouthguards are now mandatory, making the CFL the first pro sports league in North America to implement this requirement. On Tuesday, a devastating collision on Highway 2 near Westlock, Alberta, tragically claimed the life of a five-year-old local girl. Three other individuals sustained severe injuries and were transported to the hospital via ambulance or STARS Air Ambulance. The Westlock RCMP has expressed its gratitude to the members of the community who rushed to aid the victims, providing CPR and traffic control until emergency personnel arrived. The investigation into the collision is ongoing, with the RCMP initially reporting that two vehicles collided head-on at approximately 8 p.m. north of Township Road 602. The RCMP expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased child and encouraged the public to contact the Victim Services Unit or Westlock Community Victim Services Unit Association for support.
Regina police have charged a 28-year-old man, Dakotta Harry Nepinak, with several firearm offenses after responding to an unrelated call for service. The incident occurred on Wednesday at 3:15 a.m. in the 400 block of McIntyre Street. Police observed a man bicycling with loud music and concealing a large item under his jacket, which appeared to be a weapon. The man attempted to flee on his bicycle after being commanded to stop, but was apprehended by officers at Broad Street and 2nd Avenue. A loaded firearm was discovered during a search. Nepinak is in breach of curfew and conditions not to possess firearms or ammunition. He faces charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and other firearm-related offenses. His first appearance in provincial court is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
