Cell Impact, a global leader in advanced flow plates for fuel cell and electrolyzer manufacturers, is taking a significant step towards scaling up its production capabilities. The company has signed a collaboration agreement with Andritz Soutec AG, a Swiss technology provider specializing in galvo welding solutions. This partnership will see the development and implementation of Soucell, a cutting-edge galvo welding machine, designed to enhance Cell Impact’s production capacity and optimize its flow plate manufacturing process.
The collaboration aims to strengthen Cell Impact’s Phase II program, a critical stage in its growth strategy. By incorporating Soucell into its production lines, Cell Impact will be able to weld one bipolar plate per second – a rate that matches the capacity offered by its patented Cell Impact Forming technology. This increased production capacity will enable Cell Impact to meet the growing demand for flow plates as the fuel cell and electrolyzer market expands.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Cell Impact in their mission to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable energy system,” said Daniel Wenk, VP Business Development at Andritz Soutec. “This partnership is particularly exciting due to Cell Impact’s unique ability to produce flow plates on a large scale.”
The project is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with the Soucell machine scheduled for installation at Cell Impact’s Karlskoga facility in the second half of 2026. As the demand for flow plates continues to rise, the scope of the collaboration is expected to expand further.
“This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to preparing for large-scale production,” stated Daniel Vallin, interim CEO of Cell Impact. “Our unique and patented forming technology, Cell Impact Forming, provides a solid foundation for our growth. By adding new process steps and automating our manufacturing, we are continuously reducing production costs and enhancing our overall efficiency.”
This strategic partnership between Cell Impact and Andritz Soutec highlights the growing momentum in the fuel cell and electrolyzer industry. By combining their respective expertise, the companies aim to drive innovation and accelerate the adoption of clean energy technologies. With the global demand for sustainable energy solutions increasing, this collaboration holds significant potential to contribute to a greener future.
