Chiva-Som Hua Hin Launches Sleep Enhancement Program to Combat Sleep Deprivation

Chiva-Som Hua Hin, a pioneer in holistic health in Thailand, is addressing the widespread issue of poor sleep with its newly unveiled sleep enhancement offerings. These offerings are available as an add-on to any of the resort’s 16 holistic retreats. The innovative Sleep Enhancement Specialisation program combines sophisticated sleep hormone and sleep apnea evaluations, dietary consultations, a range of wellness therapies, and personalized room arrangements designed to improve sleep quality and overall well-being.

The significance of sleep cannot be overstated, as it profoundly impacts both mental and physical health. Adequate sleep plays a vital role in maintaining an optimal weight, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, lowering stress, enhancing concentration, and promoting heart health. Conversely, inadequate sleep can disrupt brain function, hinder productivity, and diminish energy, endurance, and immune function.

The Sleep Enhancement Specialisation program features two in-depth sleep evaluations: a sleep hormone assessment and a Sleep Apnea Screening. These evaluations are designed to provide a comprehensive analysis of sleep patterns and behaviors, identifying potential sleep disorders and areas for improvement.

The circadian rhythm, a natural cycle that repeats approximately every 24 hours, regulates sleep and wakefulness, adjusting various physiological and behavioral activities according to the day-night cycle. An imbalance in cortisol and melatonin, the primary hormones governing this rhythm, often leads to sleep disturbances such as difficulty falling asleep or frequent awakenings. The sleep hormone evaluation specifically measures melatonin and cortisol levels at critical times during the day to detect any imbalances that might be affecting sleep. Based on the results, a range of corrective measures such as supplementation, customized exercise routines, and nutritional adjustments are recommended.

Sleep apnea, characterized by periodic breathing pauses during sleep, affects oxygen levels in the blood. Short-term effects include fatigue, headaches, irritability, and concentration difficulties, while long-term consequences can extend to heart disease, hypertension, chronic pain, and other health issues. Chiva-Som’s Sleep Apnea Screening, conducted in the guest’s room, examines multiple physiological aspects during sleep, including air flow, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and brain activity. The results are reviewed with each guest by Chiva-Som’s in-house physician, who offers a diagnosis and tailored recommendations for managing sleep apnea.

Chiva-Som has introduced In-Room Sleep Support to create an optimal sleeping environment. Features such as blackout curtains help maintain melatonin levels; mist diffusers with essential oil blends and herbal teas like lavender and chamomile promote relaxation and sleep rituals; while a smart sleep clock simulates natural dawn, allowing guests to awaken gently. Additional comforts include a variety of pillow options for ideal support and positioning, and a curated selection of books on sleep health available in the resort’s library.

Included in the program is a 30 percent discount on up to three selected wellness therapies aimed at improving sleep. These include Seiketsu Shiraku Acupuncture, Mien Acupressure, Soothing Back Brush, Signature Herbal Massage, and Jet Lag Therapy.

Each guest receives a Naturopathic Consultation that encompasses holistic methods and strategies for enhancing sleep. This consultation considers individual needs and encompasses sleep hygiene advice, counseling, dietary and lifestyle modifications, and natural treatments.

All guests can also participate in the Better Sleep Class, led by Chiva-Som’s expert physiotherapist team, which is included in the retreats’ activity schedules.

On the launch of the sleep enhancement services, Chanyapak Suwankantha, Wellness Director at Chiva-Som Hua Hin, emphasizes, “Consistent, high-quality sleep is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, mitigating the risk of health conditions such as diabetes, reducing stress levels, improving cognitive function, and supporting cardiovascular health.” The Sleep Enhancement Specialisation program is available at Chiva-Som Hua Hin Retreat starting from THB 29,400++ per person (approximately 629 GBP).

The market value of Thailand’s hospitality industry is projected to be USD 1.42 billion in 2024, with expectations to grow to USD 1.87 billion by 2029. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.67% over the five-year period from 2024 to 2029. In the initial three months of 2024, Thailand saw a considerable surge in its tourism numbers, welcoming approximately 9.37 million overseas visitors.
