Delhi Airport Parking Nightmare: Man Charged ₹5,770, Car Damaged

A Delhi resident, Deepak Gosain, recently experienced a frustrating ordeal at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi. After parking his vehicle at the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility of Terminal 3 on August 17th, Gosain returned on August 26th to find his car damaged and a staggering parking bill of ₹5,770.

The bill consisted of ₹4,889.83 in parking fees and ₹880.17 in GST. This amounted to more than the cost of a round-trip flight ticket from Delhi to Lucknow on Air India Express, which was priced at just ₹5,672.

Upon inspecting his car, Gosain discovered that the gate lock was broken, and the vehicle had multiple scratches. He attempted to lodge a complaint with the parking staff, but his concerns were ignored. The staff had already collected the parking fees and showed no interest in addressing his grievances.

Gosain took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his disappointment. He wrote, “It was the worst experience I’ve ever had🙃 The tagline is “safe and secure” bullshit.” He also shared a video showcasing the damage to his car and the hefty parking bill.

According to the parking rates at Terminal 3 of Delhi airport, one has to pay ₹120 for the first 30 minutes, ₹170 for the next 30 minutes, and ₹100 per hour for the following five hours. If the vehicle is parked for more than 5 hours, the owner has to pay ₹600 per 24-hour period.

Gosain’s experience highlights the concerns surrounding vehicle security and the exorbitant parking fees at Delhi’s IGI Airport. The lack of accountability and responsiveness from the parking staff adds to the frustration faced by travelers who choose to park their vehicles at the airport.
