A wave of violence swept through the Jiribam district of Manipur on Saturday morning, leaving five people dead. The violence unfolded in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, a lone individual was fatally shot while sleeping in his home, located approximately 5 kilometers from the district headquarters. According to police officials, militants entered the victim’s isolated dwelling and carried out the targeted killing.
Following the assassination, a fierce exchange of gunfire erupted between armed men from warring communities in the hills, situated about 7 kilometers from the district headquarters. This confrontation resulted in the deaths of four armed individuals, including three militants from the hills.
The police are actively investigating both incidents to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace to the affected areas. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement during this time.
