Google Nest Secure Replacement Options After Shutdown

Google Nest Secure Replacement Options After Shutdown

Google has discontinued Nest Secure, its home security system, leaving owners to search for alternatives. The shutdown, announced a year ago and finalized on April 8, has left users scrambling for a suitable replacement.

Alternatives to Nest Secure are scarce. Google has partnered with ADT to offer the company’s Self Setup system for free. While a good deal, it lacks the same level of integration and hardware features as Nest Secure.

Another option is Abode’s home security system, which offers Nest integration in its app. However, it can be pricey and lacks extensive Google integration. SimpliSafe is a well-known and reliable option with great hardware and monitoring, but it can also be expensive and lacks native Google integration. Using Google Assistant with SimpliSafe requires a top-tier subscription.

Some users have opted to continue using Nest Secure in its new offline setup, which forgoes phone alerts but retains door chimes and sirens.

Personally, I’ve been using ADT’s system, but only intermittently. Its loose integration with my Nest setup limits its usefulness. I hope for improvements in future versions.

What replacement options have you found for Nest Secure? Have you discovered a system that outperforms the ones mentioned above? Let’s discuss!
