Two years after pony rides were discontinued at Griffith Park, a new survey conducted by the City of Los Angeles has unveiled strong public support for their return. The survey, which was funded by the city, found that a significant majority of respondents – approximately 61% – were in favor of offering pony rides to children once again at the park.
The findings, detailed on page 26 of the report, indicate a clear desire among residents for the revival of this beloved activity. When asked about the appeal of bringing back pony rides, a resounding 50% of respondents found it “very appealing,” while another 11% also expressed support for the idea.
Beyond pony rides, the survey revealed a strong interest in other animal-related experiences at the former pony rides site. A substantial 61% of respondents found the idea of establishing an animal rescue at the location “very appealing.” The survey also indicated positive sentiment towards the establishment of a community garden at the site.
It’s important to note that pony rides at Griffith Park were discontinued in 2022 after more than 70 years of operation. The closure followed allegations of animal mistreatment at the facility. This survey suggests that, despite the past concerns, the public remains eager to see pony rides return to Griffith Park, albeit with a renewed focus on animal welfare.
