Two individuals, David Guillory and Benicia Knapps, have entered no contest pleas in connection with the tragic killing of Home Depot security guard Blake Mohs in April 2022. The incident occurred when Guillory and Knapps were engaged in shoplifting at the Pleasanton Home Depot, resulting in a confrontation with Mohs. During the altercation, Knapps fatally shot Mohs.
Following the incident, attorneys representing Guillory and Knapps worked with the Mohs family and the deputy district attorney for Alameda County to reach an agreement. Lorie Mohs, Blake’s mother, expressed relief at the resolution, stating that it removed a significant burden.
Knapps will serve 19 years to life in prison for second-degree murder, while Guillory will face seven years for child endangerment and accessory charges. The Mohs family’s decision to accept this outcome stemmed from their desire to avoid a trial that would force them to relive the traumatic events of the murder.
The family also expressed their belief that both Guillory and Knapps deserve a second chance. They hope that the time spent in prison will provide an opportunity for personal growth and rehabilitation.
Lorie Mohs stated that she hopes the killers will acquire job skills and make positive changes in their lives both for themselves and for their families during their incarceration.
This agreement brings closure to the Mohs family, allowing them to focus on honoring and remembering Blake’s legacy. The family expressed gratitude to the Home Depot staff for their support and the relief they felt in not having to endure a lengthy trial.
