Each year, India’s premier medical school, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), selects a select few students to join its prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Currently, a total of 3,769 students are enrolled across 25 AIIMS institutes. Recently, a couple of AIIMS Deoghar students took to social media to give prospective students a glimpse into life at the institute, sparking a wave of online interest.
In one viral video, titled ‘Room tour of AIIMS,’ a student highlighted the facilities and amenities available to students at AIIMS Deoghar, located in Jharkhand. The video begins outside the institute, where the student explains that pursuing an MBBS degree at AIIMS costs only ₹5,586. He then proceeds to show off his furnished hostel room, emphasizing the low monthly rent of ₹15. The room features a large bed, study table, revolving chair, and a cupboard. “The room also gets a 24×7 electricity supply that costs me ₹4 per month,” he shared, showcasing the room’s balcony with a stunning sunset view overlooking a large open space dotted with trees.
Another AIIMS student took a more satirical approach in his hostel video, jokingly warning potential applicants about the institute’s impressive facilities. “If you join AIIMS, a lot of people will call and congratulate you. This will be tiring. Who wants to be part of an institute where the government spends ₹1.7 crore on each medical student?” he quipped, highlighting the extensive resources available to students. He then showcased the institute’s sports facilities, free Wi-Fi, and research opportunities that allow students to publish their findings as early as their first year. He also mentioned the regular cultural events hosted by the institute.
These videos have garnered thousands of views and sparked lively discussions online. “The students who get into AIIMS are the best. They are geniuses. They are the top rankers in the NEET exam. After getting admission, it’s not easy to study and pass. They have to work very hard for 5 years,” one user commented. Another user expressed excitement about the facilities at AIIMS Deoghar, stating, “Great step for healthcare in Jharkhand!” A third user highlighted the videos’ portrayal of medical student life in India, writing, “A room tour would really give us a glimpse into the life of medical students there.”
