Kejriwal Granted Bail in Excise Policy Money Laundering Case

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) celebrated a Delhi court’s decision to grant bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case connected to the now-scrapped excise policy. The party declared, “Truth can be troubled, but not defeated,” following the court’s ruling. Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi welcomed the court’s decision on X, posting “Satyamev Jayate.” Senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha also lauded the “victory of justice,” stating, “Truth can be troubled but not defeated. This is the victory of justice, the victory of truth. Heartfelt thanks to the honourable court for granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal ji.”

In response to Kejriwal’s bail, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasized the importance of timely justice from lower courts. He pointed out that the increasing number of cases reaching the Supreme Court unnecessarily burdened the top court. AAP MP Sanjay Singh stated that Kejriwal’s release on bail would strengthen democracy, calling it “good news for the people of Delhi.” He criticized the ED’s accusations as lies and the case as baseless, alleging it was fabricated to entrap Kejriwal.

The Delhi court judge ordered Kejriwal’s release on a personal bond of ₹1 lakh. However, the court imposed certain conditions: Kejriwal must not interfere with the investigation or influence witnesses, must appear before the court whenever required, and must cooperate with the investigation. The Enforcement Directorate requested 48 hours to sign the bail bond to challenge the order in a higher court, but the judge refused to delay the order. According to Bar and Bench, the judge stated, “Bail bond to be produced before duty judge tomorrow.” The judge had earlier reserved the order after hearing arguments from the ED, which attempted to connect Kejriwal to alleged proceeds of crime and co-accused, and the defense, which claimed the prosecution lacked evidence to incriminate the AAP leader.
