Lakshya Sen has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics badminton men’s singles event. He secured his place in the last eight after a convincing victory over his fellow Indian, H.S. Prannoy, in an all-Indian round of 16 clash at the La Chapelle Arena on Thursday. Sen dominated the match, winning the first game 21-12 in 21 minutes and then completely overwhelming Prannoy in the second game, winning 21-6.
This victory sets up an intriguing quarterfinal match for Sen against Chou Tien Chen, the 12th seed from Chinese Taipei. Chou Tien Chen reached the quarterfinals by defeating Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the round of 16.
Earlier in the day, India’s hopes in the men’s doubles event were dashed as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost their quarterfinal match. They fell 21-13, 14-21, 16-21 to the current World No. 3 pair from Malaysia, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik.
Later in the day, PV Sindhu will take to the court in the women’s singles round of 16, facing He Bingjiao of China.
