Today, the airport witnessed its first flight powered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a groundbreaking achievement in the quest for greener skies. Montana Renewables, the leading SAF producer in North America, supplied MSP with a 7,000-gallon shipment of SAF derived from Minnesota-grown winter camelina. The fuel was then transported by Shell Aviation to MSP, where Delta Air Lines proudly designated flight 2732 from MSP to New York (LGA) as the symbolic first SAF-fueled departure.
The use of SAF represents a significant stride towards decarbonizing air travel. This initiative not only brings sustainable fuel to Minnesota flights but also highlights the potential of camelina oil as a non-food renewable source, offering additional income opportunities for farmers.
