In the first quarter of 2024, Avinor’s airports witnessed a 3.5% increase in passenger traffic compared to the same period in 2023, with 10.8 million passengers passing through its gates. This growth was primarily driven by an 11.1% surge in international traffic, while domestic travel experienced a slight decline of 0.7%. Despite the challenging winter conditions, Avinor’s operational efficiency measures led to a rise in the passenger load factor per flight, contributing to increased profitability.
Avinor’s total operating revenue for Q1 2024 reached NOK 2,507 million, marking a 2.1% increase from the same period in 2023. This revenue growth was driven by increased traffic volume and higher non-aeronautical revenue, particularly in commercial activities. Despite increased operating expenses due to winter operations and environmental cleanup obligations, Avinor’s cost control measures resulted in an adjusted cost increase of only 6.0% compared to Q1 2023. The company’s focus on operational efficiency and cost optimization has enabled it to maintain a stable financial position.
Avinor’s commitment to sustainable aviation is reflected in the NOK 1 billion earmarked by the Norwegian government in the National Transport Plan for 2025-2036 to facilitate the transition to zero- and low-emission aviation. Avinor believes that access to funding beyond its existing framework is crucial to achieve this goal and has emphasized the need for collaboration within the industry to accelerate the green transition in aviation.
