Inspired by classic Zelda and Atari games, Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund is a retro-styled adventure game that has captured the hearts of gamers on Kickstarter. Originally seeking just $200 in funding, the project has surpassed $17,000 in under two weeks since its launch on April 12.
Developer Robin Poe, a self-described “passionate college dropout chasing a dream,” has been astounded by the level of support for the game. He initially intended Sheep Lass to be a small side project that would take a month to complete. However, the overwhelming success of the Kickstarter campaign has prompted Poe to set stretch goals, including bringing in outside musicians to score the game and adding unpredictable floors to the dungeon layout for increased replayability.
The game’s plot follows an evil sorcerer who has kidnapped knights and mages, and the player takes on the role of Bianca the Ewe to venture into the grand dungeon and save the day. The main dungeon is teeming with enemies and critical items that must be strategically utilized to survive. Poe has emphasized that the game will be challenging and will require players to carefully consider their route through the dungeon.
Poe’s initial goal for Sheep Lass was to launch on Steam by May 2024. With the additional funding, he is now aiming to bring the game to other platforms as well. The Kickstarter campaign has also unlocked stretch goals for adding hats and other cosmetics, as well as a new playable character with a unique gimmick. As the funding continues to grow, Poe has jokingly offered to run for US President if the game reaches $1 billion on Kickstarter.
Sheep Lass: Tower of Ragigund is a testament to the enduring appeal of retro-style adventure games. Poe’s passion for the project and his willingness to engage with the community have contributed to its success. The game is expected to be released in May 2024, and fans can eagerly anticipate an exciting and challenging adventure in the realm of Sheep Lass.
