Sinopec Embraces Green Transformation with Tsinghua University for a Low-Carbon Future

In a significant move towards a greener future, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) and Tsinghua University have partnered to host the 2024 Tsinghua University Forum on Carbon Neutral Economy. This forum brought together leading experts and scholars to discuss the critical aspects of green energy, technological innovation, and mutually beneficial cooperation in achieving a low-carbon transformation. The event emphasized the importance of building a harmonious relationship between humanity and nature, aligning with China’s vision of modernization.

Sinopec, recognized as a leader in green development, has earned the title of “China’s Low-Carbon Role Model” for 13 consecutive years. The company is actively pursuing a green and low-carbon development strategy, with a clear action plan for achieving carbon peaking. This strategy encompasses promoting fossil energy alongside scaling up clean energy operations, and integrating decarbonization across its entire production process. Ma Yongsheng, chairman of Sinopec, highlighted the company’s commitment to pioneering technological innovation and fostering an ecosystem of collaboration with partners. He emphasized the immense potential of the green, low-carbon industry over the next 30 years and Sinopec’s unwavering commitment to leading the industry’s transformation.

Li Luming, president of Tsinghua University, stressed the vital role of colleges and universities in connecting primary productive forces, talent resources, and innovations. He underscored the importance of their involvement in executing “Dual-Carbon” strategies. Looking ahead, Tsinghua University plans to deepen its collaboration with various sectors through integrating talent training and education, scientific research, and transformation efforts. The forum marked the inauguration of the Carbon-Neutral Ecological Partnership Program, a joint initiative of Sinopec and Tsinghua University. This program, designed to be a multi-disciplinary, cross-sector platform, will leverage university-enterprise cooperation and the convergence of industry and education. It will nurture leading experts in the field of carbon neutrality with international vision, innovative spirit, and practical capabilities. This program aims to provide technical support for policymaking and facilitate cooperation across the upstream and downstream industry chain, further solidifying the commitment to achieving a low-carbon future.
