The Soho Grand Hotel in New York City is excited to announce the launch of its new art and event space, The Gallery at Soho Grand. This modern gallery, located at 310 W Broadway in the heart of SoHo, will officially open its doors on September 19th, 2024. The grand opening will feature an exclusive exhibition titled “Under a Rock,” in partnership with The Morrison Hotel Gallery. This exhibition showcases photographs by acclaimed musician and photographer Chris Stein, co-creator of Blondie.
Chris Stein’s collection offers a rare glimpse into New York City’s punk rock scene of the 1970s and 80s, capturing iconic figures like Debbie Harry, Patti Smith, The Ramones, Fab 5 Freddy, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. This exhibition adds to the Soho Grand’s longstanding tradition of celebrating New York’s downtown culture, a hallmark of the hotel since its opening in 1996.
The Gallery at Soho Grand spans over 1,345 square feet and is designed to host a rotating selection of exhibitions from both emerging and established artists. Featuring a blend of industrial elegance and contemporary design, the space includes hardwood flooring, large storefront windows, and modern amenities such as adjustable track lighting, an advanced audio system, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The gallery also enjoys a private street entrance and direct access to Soho Grand’s seasonal outdoor restaurant, Gilligan’s.
Beyond his influence as Blondie’s guitarist and co-founder, Chris Stein is an accomplished photographer who began capturing images of the New York art and music scene in 1968. His works have been featured in galleries and publications worldwide. Stein’s photography chronicles his interactions with cultural legends like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Iggy Pop, and Joan Jett. His acclaimed photography books include “Negative: Me, Blondie, and the Advent of Punk” and “Point of View: Me, New York City, and the Punk Scene.”
