Sony Raises Horizon Zero Dawn Price Ahead of PS5 Pro Launch

Sony’s recent price adjustments to its games have sparked debate, especially in light of the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro release. While it’s not surprising for companies to make pricing changes, the latest shift regarding Horizon Zero Dawn has been met with a lot of criticism.

WCCFTech reports that the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, originally priced at $19.99 on the PlayStation Store, was silently bumped up to $39.99 on September 25th. Adding insult to injury, the price of the original Horizon Zero Dawn has also increased, jumping from $29.99 to $49.99. This means that gamers who own the original game can now buy the remastered version for $9.99. However, this upgrade price only applies if players have a digital version of the original game. Those who own the physical disc of the original game and have transitioned to a digital PS5 (or the upcoming PS5 Pro without a disc drive) are forced to pay the full $49.99 for the remastered version, as they can’t verify their purchase of the original game through the disc. This essentially forces players to choose between buying the game at the inflated price or purchasing a disc drive for their console.

The price hike for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is particularly concerning considering that the game has been available at its previous price for the past six years. Sony has yet to offer any official explanation for this sudden price jump. The timing of this move, with the PS5 Pro launch looming, has led many to speculate that this could be the beginning of a trend, with more games potentially facing similar price increases ahead of the new console’s arrival.
