## Sunita Williams’ Starliner Space Launch Called Off Again
NASA’s Starliner spacecraft, piloted by Sunita Williams, was poised to launch to the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday. However, the mission was abruptly called off just minutes before liftoff due to a technical issue.
According to NASA, the issue stemmed from an automatic hold in the ground launch sequencer, a critical component responsible for initiating the rocket’s launch. The sequencer detected a slight increase in voltage when Starliner switched from ground power to internal power, causing the cabin fans to shut off momentarily. While the fans were quickly restored, the launch was scrubbed out of an abundance of caution.
The unexpected delay marks the third postponement of the Starliner mission in the past two months. A backup launch attempt has been scheduled for Sunday, but its feasibility hinges on resolving the issue with the ground launch sequencer in time.
Boeing, the company responsible for developing and operating Starliner, acknowledged the hiccup and expressed confidence in addressing it. Mark Nappi, vice president and program manager for the Commercial Crew Program at Boeing, stated, “Tomorrow or whenever we try our next launch attempt, we’ll have that figured out.”
The setbacks faced by the Starliner mission underscore the inherent complexities and challenges of space exploration. NASA and Boeing remain committed to ensuring the safety and success of future launch attempts.
