Lisa Wilson, the mother of Denver Broncos’ newly acquired quarterback Zach Wilson, couldn’t contain her excitement following the trade that brought her son to the Mile High City. Taking to Instagram, Lisa showcased her delight, posting photoshopped images of Zach in his Broncos jersey and captioning them with words of encouragement: “Excited for a fresh new start. Let’s go!”
Later, Lisa shared a video of the family home decked out in Broncos colors, complete with orange and blue balloons and two new team flags. She accompanied the video with an inspirational message: “Surround yourself with people that love you, cheer for you and want you to succeed.”
Zach’s father, Michael Wilson, also displayed his enthusiasm, sporting a Broncos jersey bearing the number 11, currently assigned to quarterback Ben DiNucci.
Zach’s trade to Denver comes after a tumultuous season with the Jets, where he struggled to live up to expectations as the team’s starting quarterback. The Jets selected Zach with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but he managed only a 12-21 record in games he started.
Despite being given a second chance after an injury to Aaron Rodgers, Zach’s performances remained underwhelming, leading to his benching in the final weeks of the season.
Rodgers expressed sympathy for Zach during his benching, acknowledging his potential while recognizing the need for improvement. “We need a spark. I feel for Zach. I love Zach. Zach’s such a great kid, and I do think he still has a bright future in the league.”
“This has been a tough go for all of us. A lot of times in these situations, there’s a lot of guys they got to scapegoat.”
“I think there’s enough blame to go around, a number of different positions.”
