Frost Advisory Issued for Cape May County

Frost Advisory Issued for Cape May County

(Cape May County, N.J.) – The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Cape May County, valid from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop to 34 degrees, which could result in frost formation and damage to sensitive outdoor plants.

The weather service warns that frost can kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Residents are advised to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.

Frost advisories are typically issued from May to October when temperatures, winds, and sky cover are favorable for frost development. This is most likely to happen when the temperature is 36 degrees or less. In some cases, the frost is severe enough to end the growing season and is then referred to as a ‘killing frost’.

According to the weather service, if a frost advisory is issued for your area, you should cover up sensitive plants before the sun sets to help retain heat near the plants. If possible, you can also move the plants indoors for the night.
