Multiple Horses in Buckingham Palace Incident, Four Soldiers Injured

Five military horses, including one that appeared to be covered in blood, ran into a double-decker bus, a taxi, and other vehicles on Wednesday, triggering a sequence of events that resulted in injuries to four soldiers from the Household Cavalry, which patrols the grounds outside Buckingham Palace. The incident, which occurred during a rehearsal for The King’s Birthday Parade in June, was reportedly caused by building materials being dropped next to the horses, spooking them and causing them to break loose. The chaos ensued on Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square, and the area between Chancery Lane and Fleet Street, with paramedics treating human victims around 8:30 a.m., according to the London Ambulance Service. The horses were eventually rounded up, including a pair that traveled more than five miles from the initial incident, and were treated by a veterinarian. The incident involved a unit comprising seven horses and six soldiers, with the horses destined to participate in a mandatory inspection in Hyde Park on Thursday ahead of the annual The King’s Birthday Parade, an event involving 1,400 military members and 200 horses.
