Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ Sees Steady Earnings on Day 3, But Faces Controversy

Alia Bhatt’s family action thriller ‘Jigra’ is showing a steady performance at the box office, adding ₹ 5.65 crore to its collection on its third day. According to industry tracker Sacnilk.com, the film witnessed an overall Hindi occupancy of 26.57 percent on its third day, with Chennai leading the pack at 75.50 percent occupancy. Bengaluru followed closely with 53.50 percent, while Hyderabad and Pune recorded 41.75 percent and 37.75 percent occupancy respectively. ‘Jigra’, directed by Vasan Bala, has now accumulated a total collection of ₹ 16.75 crore. While the film opened with a relatively modest ₹ 4.25 crore, marking Alia’s lowest opener since her 2014 film ‘Highway’, it saw a significant jump on its second day, earning ₹ 6.55 crore.

The film, which revolves around a sister’s harrowing journey to rescue her brother, features a recreated version of the classic song ‘Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka’ showcasing Vedang Raina’s vocal talent. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions, ‘Jigra’ has been generating buzz for its action sequences and Bhatt’s performance.

However, the film’s success has been overshadowed by controversy. Actor Divya Khosla launched a scathing attack on Alia Bhatt, accusing her of manipulating the box office numbers. Khosla took to her Instagram stories to share a picture of an empty theater and criticized the film’s reported earnings, alleging that Alia purchased tickets for her own film to inflate its collection.

In response to Khosla’s accusations, Karan Johar, the producer of ‘Jigra’, responded by saying, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.” Khosla then further fueled the controversy with her own Instagram story, writing, “When you are shamelessly accustomed to stealing what rightfully belongs to others, you will always seek shelter in silence. You will have no voice no spine.” The heated exchange has further intensified the controversy surrounding ‘Jigra’, leaving the audience divided on the film’s true box office performance.
