The 10th World Water Forum concluded at the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Bali on Friday, May 28, 2024, as confirmed by Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the Forum. Alongside World Water Council President Loïc Fauchon, they marked the event’s closure by passing the World Water Council flag to Abdulaziz Al Shaiban, Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Water from the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
This edition of the Forum was notable for the adoption of significant resolutions, including the endorsement of a World Lakes Day and the creation of a Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience. The Forum also emphasized the need for integrated water resource management on small islands, aligning with broader United Nations initiatives for water action.
President Fauchon praised the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration that encapsulated the commitments of 113 clean water and sanitation projects valued at USD 9.4 billion, involving 33 nations and 53 global organizations. He extended his gratitude to the Indonesian hosts for their hospitality and the pivotal role they played in the seamless execution of the forum.
Minister Basuki highlighted the critical need for enhanced cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure that the goals set during the forum are achieved, benefiting communities worldwide. He also took the opportunity to recognize Iffah Rachmi from Youth Sanitation Concern, who received the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize 2024.
The forum boasted an impressive turnout with 64,000 attendees representing 160 countries, engaging in 278 discussion sessions and exploring 254 exhibition booths. Additionally, the forum was supported by 200 parliament members from 49 countries, 150 local and regional authority representatives from 23 countries, and 847 sub-regional delegates.
