117 Years of Movie Bullsh*t: Frank Adkinson Jr. and Candice Vernon Challenge Hollywood’s Past

Frank Adkinson Jr. and Candice Vernon have teamed up to write and direct ‘117 Years of Movie Bullsh*t,’ a dark comedy that delves into the problematic history of the film industry. The film follows two aspiring stars who are sent back in time to the era of ‘Gone With the Wind’ by a nefarious studio executive. Trapped in the roles of token Black characters, they confront the industry’s racist past.

Adkinson Jr. and Vernon, frustrated by the lack of opportunities for Black actors, were inspired to create their own story that showcases the diversity and talent of the Black community. The film serves as a reminder of the importance of Black narratives and the need to challenge stereotypes.

In a statement, Adkinson Jr. said, “There is so much to us that I feel like we don’t get to show audiences. We can tell amazing stories, we can show unique perspectives.” Vernon added, “This film is a love letter to our people, a reminder that we can and must craft our own narratives, both on and off screen.”

Joining Adkinson Jr. in front of the camera are Blue Kimble, Jesse C. Boyd, and Karen Obilom. Blue Kimble, known for his roles in ‘P-Valley’ and ‘Ruthless,’ serves as the film’s executive producer. Jesse C. Boyd has appeared in ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Outer Banks,’ while Karen Obilom’s credits include ‘Doom Patrol’ and ‘Insecure.’

‘117 Years of Movie Bullsh*t’ marks the first project under the newly formed Viral Productions LLC. Post-production is currently underway.
