149 Trains Affected as Farmers’ Protest Continues at Shambhu Railway Station

On Wednesday, the ongoing farmers’ protest at Shambhu railway station on the Ambala-Ludhiana rail line entered its eighth day, disrupting rail operations. According to the Ambala division of Northern Railways, 149 trains were affected, with 75 cancellations, 64 diversions, and 10 short terminations or origins. This brings the total number of trains cancelled or diverted due to the protest to 1139.

The protest, demanding the release of three farm activists arrested by Haryana police, has seen farmers blocking the railway lines and raising slogans against the BJP and the government. Farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher addressed the protesters, calling for large gatherings on the 100th day of the protest.

Pandher criticized the government for not addressing the farmers’ demands and called for immediate compensation for farmers who suffered crop losses due to rain and hailstorms.

The disruption in rail traffic has impacted the Ambala cloth market, as traders face difficulties in transporting goods by rail. Shambhu railway station is a key rail line connecting Delhi to Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. The farmers’ protest has disrupted train traffic for the past eight days.

The farmers have been protesting at Shambhu, Khanauri, and Dabwali borders for the past 71 days. Farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher has stated that the protests will continue and will be strengthened on the 100th day of the protest.

The farmers’ protest has raised concerns about the impact on the economy, especially the transportation of essential goods. The government has urged the farmers to end the blockade and has assured them that their demands will be addressed.

The situation remains tense, and it is unclear when the farmers’ protest will end. The railway authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are working to minimize the disruption to train services.
