Golf fans around the world are buzzing about the remarkable achievements of 15-year-old Miles Russell. On Friday, Russell made history by becoming the youngest player to make the cut on the PGA’s Korn Ferry Tour, breaking an 18-year-old record.
But Russell’s impressive performance didn’t end there. On Sunday, he closed with a 5-under 66 at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, finishing just six shots behind winner Tim Widing. With his top-25 finish, Russell has become the youngest player on record since 1983 to achieve this feat on both the PGA Tour and the Korn Ferry Tour.
Russell’s exceptional weekend play has earned him a spot in this week’s Veritex Bank Championship in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The Jacksonville Beach, Florida native is now the youngest player to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour at 15 years, five months, and 18 days, surpassing the previous record held by Gipper Finau in 2006.
Throughout the weekend, Russell showcased his remarkable talent, claiming 17 birdies and three eagles while playing four consecutive rounds under par. Despite his age, Russell remains ineligible to join the Korn Ferry Tour for the next three years due to age restrictions. However, he can continue to qualify for tour events by posting top-25 performances.
Russell’s recent success is a continuation of his impressive 2023 season, where he won the Junior PGA Championship by seven shots and became the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship. He is also the reigning American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year, an accolade he earned at a younger age than golf legend Tiger Woods.
