Authorities have identified the victim of Monday’s deadly incident outside a Halifax shopping mall as 16-year-old Ahmad Maher Al Marrach. Around 5 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a call regarding a parking lot next to the Halifax Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, they found an injured teenager who was subsequently transported to the hospital, where he sadly passed away. Halifax Regional Police have since released two youths who were detained on a Halifax Transit bus in the vicinity of North Street about 20 minutes after the initial call. No charges have been laid against either individual. The cause of Al Marrach’s death has not been disclosed by the police. Halifax Mayor Mike Savage acknowledged the tragic event on Tuesday, leading a moment of silence at the beginning of the regional council meeting. ‘Our thoughts are with the family of the young man who lost his life yesterday in Halifax,’ he stated before council members and attendees bowed their heads and stood in silence for a few moments. Police request that anyone with information or video footage related to the incident contact them at 902-490-5020.
