A 17-month-old baby from Tiruchengode, who was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a rare congenital condition, has received a new lease on life after undergoing a successful liver transplant at a private hospital in Coimbatore.
The liver transplant was performed by a team of surgeons led by Dr. Anand Bharathan, Dr. Jayabal, Dr. Prakash and Dr. Vikash Moond. The team successfully divided a liver donated by a brain-dead donor into two sections, allowing them to save two patients simultaneously.
The baby is now recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery. The family of the baby has expressed their gratitude to the doctors and staff at the hospital for their care and support.
The hospital offers liver transplant services under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, providing free surgeries to economically disadvantaged patients. This scheme has helped to make liver transplants more accessible to patients who would otherwise not be able to afford the procedure.
