19 Nursing Students Hospitalized After Rat Repellent Spraying in Bengaluru Hostel

On the night of August 18, a concerning incident unfolded at the Adarsh Nursing College student hostel in Bengaluru. Nineteen students were rushed to the hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties due to the presence of rat repellent sprayed by the hostel management.

According to West Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police S Girish, the students displayed symptoms of poisoning, leading to their immediate hospitalization. While most students have since received treatment and recovered, three students – Jayan Varghese, Dileesh, and Jo Mon – remain in critical condition and are currently receiving care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The incident has sparked concern regarding the safety measures implemented at the hostel. The hostel management is facing legal repercussions, with a case being registered under section 286 BNS against the staff responsible for the rat repellent spraying. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the specific type of repellent used and the extent of its impact on the students.

This incident highlights the importance of proper safety protocols and the responsible use of pesticides, especially in environments where individuals are vulnerable, such as student hostels.
