’General Hospital’ Dominates Daytime Emmy Nominations with 11 Nods
ABC’s ‘General Hospital,’ the longest-running American soap opera in production, has garnered 11 nominations for the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The show is in contention for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, an award it holds the record for winning the most times with 16 victories.
‘GH’ has also received acting nominations for Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves) in the Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress category, and Robert Gossett (Marshall Ashford) in the Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor category. Alley Mills was nominated for Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series.
The show also received nominations in writing and directing categories for drama series, as well as Original Song for ‘Shine,’ Lighting Direction, Casting, and Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design.
Talk Shows Shine in Nominations
In the Daytime Talk Series category, ‘Tamron Hall,’ ‘Turning Tables with Robin Roberts,’ and ‘The View’ received nominations. Tamron Hall was also nominated for Daytime Talk Series Host, along with Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Ana Navarro from ‘The View,’ and Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa for ‘Live with Kelly and Mark.’
‘Tamron Hall’ received a third nomination for Outstanding Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing, while ‘Turning The Tables with Robin Roberts’ was nominated for Directing Team for a Multiple Camera Daytime Non-Fiction Program.
‘The View’ received additional nominations in the Directing Team, Lighting Direction, Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design, and Hairstyling and Makeup categories.
Streaming Services Make their Mark
Hulu earned eight nominations, with ‘Unexpected’ being nominated for Daytime Special and for its song ‘Unexpected Truth.’ ‘Searching for Soul Food’ received nominations in the Directing Team, Main Title and Graphic Design, and Single Camera Editing categories.
‘Drive with Swizz Beatz’ was also nominated in the Single Camera Editing category, as well as Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. ‘Living For The Dead’ had one nomination for cinematography.
National Geographic Earns Recognition
National Geographic received four nominations, two in the Travel, Adventure and Nature Program category for ‘Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory’ and ‘Extraordinary Birder with Christian Cooper.’ Cooper also received a nomination for Daytime Personality – Non-Daily, and ‘What Really Happened: America’s Wild’ was nominated in the Educational and Informational Program category.
ABC’s Holiday Special and Technical Excellence
ABC’s ‘Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade’ was nominated for Daytime Special, Directing Team for a Multiple Camera Daytime Non-Fiction Program, and Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video.
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on June 7th, recognizing excellence in daytime programming.
