The Portland Trail Blazers have been awarded a 13.2% chance of securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, as determined by the league’s draft lottery drawings. The lottery was held at the NBA office in Secaucus, New Jersey, and was overseen by NBA President of League Operations Byron Spruell.
The Blazers tied with the Charlotte Hornets for the third-worst record in the NBA this season, with both teams finishing with a 21-61 record. As a result of the tie, the Hornets won the drawing and will have a slightly higher chance (13.3%) of winning the top pick, while the Blazers will have a 13.2% chance.
Under normal circumstances, the teams with the three worst records would each have a 14% chance of winning the No. 1 pick. However, due to the tie between the Blazers and Hornets, the 14% odds for the No. 3 pick and the 12.5% odds for the No. 4 pick were combined to create a 26.5% chance. This percentage was then split, with the No. 3 pick receiving 13.3% and the No. 4 pick receiving 13.2%.
The NBA Draft will be held on June 27th in New York City. The Sacramento Kings won their tiebreaker with the Golden State Warriors, leaving the Warriors with the 14th-best odds at 0.7% while the Kings hold a 0.8%. This slightly improves the Blazers’ chances, as they own the Warriors’ pick, which is top-four protected. The Warriors have a 3.4% chance of moving into the top four.
