A 23-year-old man, Nazim, wanted for the murder of a liquor salesman in Greater Noida’s New Haibatpur village on March 31, was arrested near Noida after a gunfight with the police.
According to the police, Nazim and his associates had allegedly shot dead the liquor salesman after he denied them alcohol around midnight. The incident took place near Ek Murti Chowk in the Bisrakh police station area, where the police had set up a checkpoint.
When the accused, who was on a motorcycle, was gestured to stop for enquiry, he sped away while opening fire on the police team, leading to a chase and gunfight.
The accused, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his arrest, suffered injuries during the encounter and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
An illegal firearm along with some ammunition was seized from Nazim, and his motorcycle has been impounded.
Two other accused in the liquor salesman’s murder case have already been arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway, the police added.
