3 Underrated Action Movies on Amazon Freevee You Should Watch

Finding a good movie on Amazon Freevee can be a challenge, especially since the platform’s selection seems to have dwindled after Amazon Prime Video started including commercials in its standard tier. However, there are still some hidden gems to be found among the action movies available. Here are three underrated action flicks on Freevee that are worth your time this August.

Blood Father (2016)

This French action film may have flown under the radar, grossing only $7 million in 2016, but it boasts a fantastic cast led by Mel Gibson and William H. Macy. The Boys’ Erin Moriarty and Andor star Diego Luna also contribute strong supporting performances. Gibson plays John Link, a recently released ex-convict who reunites with his daughter, Lydia Carson-Link (Moriarty). Since their last encounter, Lydia has become addicted to drugs and is romantically involved with a dangerous gangster, Jonah Pincerna (Luna). When Lydia accidentally shoots Jonah during a robbery, his gang sets out to kill her. John, aided by his AA sponsor, Kirby (Macy), must protect Lydia from the gang and keep her out of Jonah’s clutches.

No Escape (1994)

This 1994 film, starring the late Ray Liotta, takes place in the then-future year of 2022. Liotta portrays JT Robbins, who is imprisoned for refusing to commit atrocities in Benghazi and for killing his commanding officer who attempted to instigate a massacre. For his crimes and repeated escape attempts, JT is sent to Absolom, a remote island that houses the most hardened criminals. JT quickly clashes with Absolom’s inmate dictator, Walter Marek (Stuart Wilson), before aligning himself with a rival faction led by The Father (Lance Henriksen). However, as Marek and The Father prepare for war, JT’s main priority is survival and finding a way to escape the island.

Mechanic: Resurrection (2016)

While the first Mechanic movie already revealed that Jason Statham’s Arthur Bishop was still alive, Mechanic: Resurrection features a much stronger supporting cast than most of Statham’s action films. While enjoying retirement, Arthur and his friend, Mei (Michelle Yeoh), witness a young woman named Gina Thornton (Jessica Alba) being abused by her lover. After rescuing Gina, she begins to fall for Arthur, and he reciprocates her feelings. This is when Riah Crain (Sam Hazeldine) strikes, kidnapping Gina to force Arthur back into action and kill three of his rivals. One of the rivals, Max Adams (Tommy Lee Jones), proves to be a much tougher target than the others. Arthur must be resourceful to overcome this predicament.
