4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles San Diego County
Residents of San Diego County were jolted awake on Monday, May 20, 2024, by a series of earth tremors, the most notable being a 4.1 magnitude earthquake. The seismic event occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. and was located roughly 10 miles southeast of Ocotillo Wells. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake originated at a depth of 7 miles. The tremors were felt not only in San Diego but also in neighboring Imperial County, where inhabitants reported a sensation of mild shaking. This comes after a smaller quake, measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale, struck near Brawley in Imperial County a few hours earlier at about 1:45 a.m. These back-to-back seismic activities have caught the attention of local authorities and geologists who continue to monitor the situation closely. As of now, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries.
