SANTA CLARA, Calif. — 49ers general manager John Lynch emphasized the team’s commitment to keeping wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, stating that their wish is for him to remain with the franchise for his entire career. Lynch acknowledged good discussions taking place regarding a contract extension.
Despite rumors, Lynch reiterated that the 49ers have no intention of trading Aiyuk. However, he indicated a desire to finalize an extension earlier than previous deals, citing concerns raised by Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa about potential performance impacts due to contract negotiations extending into the season.
Aiyuk has not participated in the voluntary offseason program but has been present at the team facility for workouts and rehab. Quarterback Brock Purdy has maintained communication with Aiyuk, expressing support and understanding.
Lynch acknowledged receiving interest from other teams but emphasized the team’s focus on keeping Aiyuk. He anticipates that Aiyuk will remain on the roster beyond the NFL Draft, but the dynamic could shift if an exceptional offer is made.
Aiyuk has used social media to indicate frustration with the negotiation process, but Trent Williams stressed the importance of patience in such high-stakes deals.
