John Galliano: A Documentary

Directed by Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald (*Marley & Me*), the documentary chronicles John Galliano’s career from his days as a fashion student at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins to his creative explosion at some of the industry’s most prominent brands. “It’s a complete story told by him, by the people who worked with him, and by his closest friends. It’s a documentary that doesn’t shy away from the dark content of John’s life, but at the same time, shows his genius,” the director recently told *Vogue*. In 2011, the designer and former creative director of Dior saw his career end after being accused and convicted of anti-Semitic comments. Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Anna Wintour, and others participate in the documentary and help narrate Galliano’s turbulent career over the decades. Available on Prime Video.

Cristóbal Balenciaga: The Man Who Defined Fashion

Launched in January, this six-episode series presents the most significant moments in the life of Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga during World War II. The son of a fisherman and a seamstress, the designer sewed a dress for the Marquise of Casa Torres at the age of 12. Decades later, in 1960, he designed the wedding dress for her granddaughter, Queen Fabiola of Belgium. Beyond portraying his career, the production explores the designer’s search for identity in the face of adversity and the challenge of social conventions of the time. The series also explores the designer’s obsession with perfection, his constant pursuit of his own style, and his loneliness, marked by the losses of his mother and his life partner. Available on Disney+.

The New Look

The series *The New Look* is based on the true story of Christian Dior and addresses his relationship with other iconic designers in the fashion world, such as Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain, and Cristóbal Balenciaga during World War II in France. “It was seven years of research. And as happens in any context, you have to make choices about how to build this narrative. It’s not a documentary, so we have to invent dialogues and situations, but the main desire was to try to stay as close as possible to the events that occurred,” executive producer and creator of the series, Todd A. Kessler, explained in a recent interview with *Vogue*. Available on Apple TV+.

Feud: Capote’s Women

The second season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series about historical rivalries presents the conflict between writer Truman Capote and the group of socialites “The Swans,” which includes former *Vogue* editor Babe Paley, played by Naomi Watts. Divided into eight episodes, the production features, in addition to impeccable costumes, a stellar cast composed of Demi Moore, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, and Calista Flockhart, who play, respectively, Ann Woodward, Slim Keith, C.Z. Guest, and Lee Radziwill, women of New York high society in the 1950s and 1960s. Available on Disney+.

Becoming Karl Lagerfeld

*Becoming Karl Lagerfeld* is composed of six episodes that portray the 1970s, the period when the artist born in Hamburg, Germany, and played by Daniel Brühl (*Rush*), established himself in Paris. The production explores the evolution of his career, his passions, and the conflicts that marked his life. At one point, Karl confronts his former friend and rival Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois). *Becoming Karl Lagerfeld* also addresses the German designer’s relationship with Jacques de Bascher, the great love of his life.
