Be Proactive with Prevention
Prevent makeup stains by using a setting spray or powder to lock your makeup in place. You can also put a sheet over your head or face while putting on or taking off clothes for added protection.
Put Clothes on After Your Makeup
For the best results, put on your clothes after applying makeup to avoid fallout from eyeshadows or setting powder. If you must put on clothes over your head, wear an old button-up over your outfit to protect it from makeup transfer.
Brush or Scrape It Off
Powder makeup can be easily brushed off of clothes. For mascara or liquid eyeliner, wait for it to dry completely and then scrape it away with a clean spoolie.
Dab With a Tissue or Makeup Wipe
For liquid or cream spills, dab away any excess product with a tissue or makeup wipe. Rubbing will only spread the stain.
Soap and Water
For easy-to-remove stains, use a mixture of water and a tiny bit of dish soap. Rubbing just water on the stain can also be effective.
Rubbing Alcohol
Rubbing alcohol can break down makeup stains. Soak the tip of a towel, clean cloth, or a cotton ball with alcohol and blot the stain.
Detergent Pen or Wipes
For on-the-go stain removal, use a detergent pen or wipes. Simply dab or rub the stained area until the stain starts to disappear.
Spot Clean and Then Wash
For tough stains like foundation or lipstick, spot clean first to remove as much product as possible. Then, throw your clothing into the wash with a good laundry detergent. Pre-treating the stain with a laundry solution can also help improve removal.
Repeat the Process if Necessary
If the stain remains, repeat the cleaning process until it’s gone. Don’t give up hope on your favorite clothes just yet!
